What it looks at

The score is about the photo, not your face. These are the things that make the same person look better or worse on Hinge, Tinder and Bumble.

  • Lighting
  • Framing and crop
  • Sharpness
  • Expression
  • Eye contact
  • Solo or group
  • Sunglasses and hats
  • Selfie distance

Questions

How does the score work?

An AI model looks at the craft of the photo the way a photographer would: lighting, framing, sharpness, background, expression, eye contact, whether you're alone in the shot, and whether sunglasses, a hat or a close selfie angle get in the way. It gives a score from 1.0 to 10.0, one thing that works, the single biggest fix and two quick tips. It never rates your looks, body or ethnicity.

Is it really free?

Yes. No signup, no email and no card. Everyone gets 3 free scores a day. To keep it free for everyone, there is also a daily limit on the total number of scores, so on a very busy day you may need to come back tomorrow.

Is my photo saved?

No. Your browser shrinks the photo before upload, our server passes it to our AI provider (OpenAI) for this one score, and it is never written to our storage or logs. We keep only the score number and a one-way scrambled version of your IP address, so we can enforce the daily limit. Those records are deleted after 30 days.

Is it accurate?

It's a useful second opinion, not a verdict on you. The score reflects photo quality, not how many matches you'll get, and the same photo can land a few tenths apart on different tries. Treat the biggest fix as a checklist item: fix it, retake the photo, and rate it again.

What photos can I rate?

Your own photos, where you're 18 or older and clearly the main person in the shot. We won't score photos with no person, group shots where it's unclear who you are, nudity, photos of minors, or screenshots of someone else's dating profile.

What is Dateup?

Dateup is a tool that improves dating profile photos and writes openers. This photo score is free and stands on its own. If you want, you can make a free account to have the photo fixed or to get a full review of all your profile photos.
